There are 7.5 million Americans with intellectual disabilities, and 200 million worldwide, which are the most neglected and undervalued population in the world, and as such, children with intellectual and developmental disabilities often grow up experiencing a life of rejection and isolation.

Through Best Buddies, thousands of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities have successfully moved from segregation and desolation to a new acceptance in their family and community. Every day Best Buddies provides the opportunity for a smile, a phone call, a laugh, and most importantly, a friend.

If you were to ask David, Hillary or Stephen what has changed the most in their lives since becoming a Best Buddies participant, they would tell you that it's simple; they now have a friend to talk to, a friend to eat Chinese food with, a friend to listen to the radio with, a friend to dance with, a friend to play computer games with, and a friend to share their everyday experiences.

Best Buddies needs your help to continue making friendship a reality for the people in our programs and on our waiting list. These three pairs represent just a few of the thousands of friendships developed through Best Buddies over the years. Today our programs engage over 3,779 people with and without intellectual disabilities in Texas alone.

Be a Team Captain!

Team Captains are the leaders who can help us be successful through the organization of teams. You will serve as the link between Best Buddies and potential walkers. You create power in numbers by motivating friends, family, coworkers, and other to join you in the Friendship Walk. You will make a difference in the life of a person with intellectual or developmetal disabilities, and being a team leader is easy and fun!
